Recently, UCOR’s Industrial Hygiene (IH) and Training and Development Programs collaborated to create a suite of customized in-house Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training courses for non-union workers.
The newly developed HAZWOPER courses provide the workforce with multiple options, including a 40-hour equivalent training, a 24-hour Initial, an 8-hour Refresher, and an 8-hour Supervisor course.
Previously, various outside vendors were used to provide HAZWOPER training. Workers would have to go off-site to attend classes. This arrangement presented challenges such as limited class availability, scheduling conflicts, and other logistics.
The IH and Training Programs recognized that an in-house approach would benefit UCOR and the workforce by reducing the risk of training deficiencies, increasing flexibility in scheduling, and enhancing the quality of training content.
Despite the in-house courses, workers who take HAZWOPER training through the Laborer’s Training Facility (LTF) should continue to do so.
This accomplishment demonstrates UCOR’s daily dedication to maintaining a safety culture of excellence in new and innovative ways. Kudos to the IH and Training departments!
