UCOR representatives recently attended the Scarboro Affordable Housing groundbreaking ceremony. This project will create more than 100 new affordable housing units in the Scarboro community, located just miles from UCOR’s campus. This initiative, part of a $64 million development, includes the renovation of existing public housing units and is a response to the community’s housing needs, particularly for families earning between 30% and 60% of the area’s median income. The project is expected to be completed within approximately 24 months, with a focus on providing quality homes while preserving the historical significance of the Scarboro community. UCOR provided the first money source for the project—$100,000 in “seed” money as part of its workforce development effort to ensure that workers have affordable housing options in Oak Ridge. The groundbreaking is one huge step to address the availability of affordable housing in the area.
