UCOR is a major sponsor of this week’s Nuclear Opportunities Workshop being held at the Knoxville Convention Center. Hosted by the East Tennessee Economic Council, the workshop drew more than 1,000 attendees, the largest participation ever.
Joe Aylor, UCOR’s Director of Critical Projects, and OREM Manager Erik Olds participated in a morning panel entitled “Cleanup Today for a Nuclear Tomorrow.” Aylor told delegates that UCOR’s successful completion of Visions 2016, 2020, and 2024 is closely linked to the nuclear renaissance the region is experiencing today.
“As the cleanup was completed, the inquiries and expressions of interest from companies started pouring in,” Aylor said. “Our success in completing these DOE visions is like national championship banners that hang from the rafters.”
Olds praised the “pioneering spirit” of the Oak Ridge region that started with the Manhattan Project and continues today with the resurgence of interest in nuclear energy.
“We need to continue to look for ways to streamline procedures and reduce regulations to be sure this momentum continues,” he said.
The workshop continues through tomorrow.
