At UCOR, safety is our top priority. We are incredibly proud of our team members who consistently demonstrate a proactive approach to maintaining a safe working environment. This month, we’re spotlighting our recent LSIT winners whose keen observations and questioning attitudes have prevented potential incidents and reinforced our safety culture.
Grand Prize Winner: Clint Vought, LSIT Eagle Eye
Using the new UCOR Document Management (UDM) system, Clint noticed the procedure he was using had not updated to the most recent version that he knew existed. After further investigation, it was discovered that the UDM system never times out as other database systems do. This means if the user does not close the browser, refresh, or submit a new search then the information on screen will not update. Without doing these steps, a user could unknowingly use an outdated document. The issue was communicated to IT, and they are looking into possible solutions.
LSIT Winners: Dakota Stiles and Brad Miller, GROUNDHOGS
Historically, sampling teams used a paper map on the wall to locate sampling sites for the day’s activities. Dakota inquired about the possibility of creating an app field crews could use on their phones to pull up site locations instead. Brad looked into the idea and found a solution that allows the teams to zoom in and out and more easily locate sampling areas.
LSIT Winner: Vince LeDonne, BOBCATS
Vince noticed individuals outside of Trailer 7880L at TWPC were crossing the street prior to the walkway due to its location. Due to the existing crosswalk location, it causes individuals to cross the road outside the protection of the walkway, so he suggested a safer alternative route.
LSIT Winner: Dereck Evans, TRAILBLAZERS
Derek identified an oversight in UCOR’s safety protocol for operating a boat in cold weather conditions and suggested carrying a rapid warming device for accidental overboard situations.
LSIT Winner: Riley McBee, SLOTHS
Riley questions all electrical installations and modifications to ensure the electrical team is well informed.
