Prepping ORNL Building 3517 for deactivation

Getting former nuclear facilities ready for demolition can involve a wide variety of activities, from removing asbestos lined pipes and tiles to decontaminating old equipment. We have workers right now preparing the ORNL Fission Production Development Lab (Building 3517) for eventual demo. They are investigating the facility’s hot cells by taking radiation measurements and gathering high resolution video of hot cell interiors. These measurements and video will help give the team a fuller picture of the overall deactivation scope for that building. It will also give a picture of the working environment our crews will be in so that we can ensure they will be safe as they work.
