Prepping Alpha-2 basement for facility demolition

Workers at Y-12 National Security Complex continue cleanup activities in the basement of the Alpha-2 building as UCOR prepares for demolition of the massive facility this fall. Workers are filling the basement area zones 1 & 2, covering approximately 3000 cubic yards with a concrete mixture that will create a slab for heavy equipment to maneuver during demolition. Before the pouring can begin, workers construct forms to ensure safe and exact placement of the concrete. Carpenters built 241 linear feet of forms to help place 12,485 cubic yards of the concrete mixture on the west side of Alpha-2.
