Taking shortcuts and being complacent can contribute to preventable power tool injuries. Whether at work or home, injuries such as cuts, punctures, crushing, repetitive strains, fractures, burns, electrical shocks, and amputations can occur when using power tools.
Either on the job or in your garage, consider the following:
• Select the right tool and personal protective equipment for the job.
• Follow instructions in the manufacturer’s manual.
• Use for the intended purpose only—do not modify tools.
• Inspect tools and components before each use.
• Maintain good housekeeping.
• Confirm guards and safety features are present and functioning.
• Remove jewelry and/or loose clothing.
• Evaluate the area for hazards and adjust accordingly.
• Stay alert and avoid distractions.
• Deenergize tools before adjusting, repairing, cleaning, or storing.
