As cold and flu season approaches, taking simple precautions can help prevent the spread of illness. The following simple actions can help protect our workforce and ensure we are ready to safely perform work:
Stay home when you’re sick: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends staying home until symptoms are improving and you’ve been fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours.
Take a flu shot: UCOR Health Services is offering flu shots at site locations starting Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Wash hands frequently: Per the CDC, handwashing can reduce respiratory illnesses, such as colds, by 21%. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating, after using the restroom, and after coughing or sneezing. When soap and water aren’t available, use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.
Cover coughs and sneezes: Use a tissue or the inside of your elbow to cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of used tissues immediately and wash or sanitize your hands afterward.
Keep shared spaces clean: Regularly clean frequently touched surfaces, including desks, keyboards, door handles, tools, and shared equipment. Avoid sharing personal items such as drinking containers and utensils.
Practice healthy habits: Prioritize adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, hydration, and regular physical activity. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Communicate: If you’re feeling unwell, notify your supervisor. Open communication allows time to coordinate schedules, adjust work assignments, and ensure work continues safely without exposing others.
