More than 17,000 square feet of Alpha-2 building demolished

Significant demolition progress has been made at the main Alpha-2 building at Y-12 over the last several weeks. Crews have sheared and demolished over 17,000 square feet of the facility. They have also removed the steel beams above the large electrical transformer that previously fed the building. This second phase of demo follows the successful demolition of the Alpha-2 carpentry building in September. A total of 27 truckloads of debris, weighing 294,220 pounds, have been safely removed without interruption to Y-12 operations.
