ORRL Operations completed sediment cleanout of Pond 4 at Construction/Demolition Landfill VII this month, maximizing the capacity of this sediment settling pond in time for the upcoming wet season. Even with the very limited access into the sediment pond area and with ongoing waste management activities, the team completed the cleanout in just 12 working days. Over that time, the team removed 181 loads of accumulated sediment from the pond.
After sediment removal, 45 loads of clean fill were added to return the area to the original design elevations. Twenty-two loads of rip rap were used to rebuild the baffle/berm separating the forebay and main pond. This expedited approach ensured that this critical component of the ORRL stormwater management was in excellent working condition before the start of the wet season.
