Workers at Y-12 are busy at Alpha-4 with mercury cleanup and containment throughout several floors. Critical safety measures are followed to prevent vapors from escaping into the air inside and outside of the building by covering ventilation louvers. The hazardous waste is captured and placed in glove boxes and inside the fume hoods to be packaged for disposal. Excellent progress has been made with 224 legacy containers (steel drums and B-25 metal boxes) out of 447 ready for shipment.
