To the UCOR Workforce:
Following this year’s Top Workplaces survey, a team of 12 individuals across the organization performed an in-depth review of employee input. While topics such as our safety culture and mission received positive feedback, the survey also identified some challenges. To address those challenges, I asked a broad group of managers to look at the findings of the review team and develop action plans to address the concerns.
The challenges fall into four major areas:
- Communication (clearer, timely leadership communication and better interdepartmental communication)
- Management issues (trusting the team, making consistent decisions, treating everyone fairly, and understanding how the work gets done in the field)
- Recognition and career advancement (appreciation, growth opportunities, clear career paths)
- Employee engagement and feedback (stronger feedback channels with no fear of retaliation)
One of the keys to UCOR’s success is that we are a continuously learning organization. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are honoring your investment in the company by first recognizing your input and second by acting on the feedback you’ve provided. You have identified specific areas through your feedback that will help us improve and continue to strengthen our culture of excellence. Now we’re identifying exactly how we will make improvements.
I want to encourage you to give us feedback throughout the year, not just during the Top Workplaces survey. Our Employee Concerns program is one way to raise areas of concern. You can give direct feedback through UCOR Mobile and UCOR Hub. In addition, you can email or talk with your manager or the senior leader of your organization. You can also reach out directly to me.
Look for more communication on our efforts to address the issues you identified. Stay focused on safety, and thanks for all that you do.
Best Regards,
Jim Blankenhorn
UCOR President and Program Manager
