[This is part of a five-part series on neurodivergence, designed to help our team understand, support, and value the different ways we all process information.]
Executive function is the brain’s command center. It helps us plan, organize, manage time, and start tasks. Many neurodivergent employees (including those with ADHD or dyslexia, which affect how the brain organizes and focuses) face challenges with executive function.
An employee might be highly creative and intelligent but struggle to start a project or track deadlines. This is not laziness. It is just a difference in how the brain processes tasks. Structured workflows help everyone stay on track.
- Manager Tip: Break big projects into small steps. Create clear timelines and use visual task boards to show progress.
- Team Member Tip: Share organized notes and action items after meetings. Confirm who owns each task and when it is due.
