Jolane Fenner, part of the UCOR’s Quality Assurance team, recently returned from racing for Team USA at the 17th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Dragon Boat Racing Championships (WDBRC) in Brandenburg, Germany. The race spanned from July 14 – 20
Team USA has competed and placed at every WDBRC event since they began in 1995. Fenner is a part of the 2025 National Team USA’s Senior C division.
There are six age class divisions: Junior, Under 24, Premier, and Senior A, B, C. There are two other divisions that don’t include an age class: the Para dragons and Breast Cancer Survivors.
Since 2009, Team USA Senior C has won 49 medals (including winning almost every event in 2019), making it one of the most successful Team USA programs in history.
In the championships, Fenner competed in the ‘Standard Boat” category. Before returning from Brandenburg, Fenner earned 4 silver and 4 bronze medals. In total, between both the Standard Boat and Small Boat category, the Senior C division took home 1 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
Fenner has been participating in dragon boat racing since 2017. Last summer, she went to Italy for a competition with her dragon boat racing team.
“To represent the USA on the World Stage is an incredible honor,” said Fenner. “Once you put on the USA uniform, you realize what the hard work means and being among many national athletes, reinforcing that representation, is a wonderful privilege.”
