Congratulations to the TWPC team for reaching the first-year oxide processing milestone of 6.4 cubic meters months ahead of schedule! To celebrate this achievement, TWPC hosted a luncheon yesterday to recognize the team and thank them for their efforts.
This was a new activity for the site and required extensive preparation for processing authorization. The team completed facility modifications, safety analysis revisions, procedure updates, a Federal Readiness Assessment, and much more.
Once UCOR received authorization in August, crews used the hot cell and glovebox to process the waste and accelerate this milestone achievement. With the first-year goal met, TWPC will continue processing oxide materials to support cleanup across the Oak Ridge Reservation.
