UCOR is making stormwater system upgrades at ETTP in support of the ETTP Heritage Center end state goals.
DOE is responsible for stormwater management across 900 acres at the ETTP Heritage Center. DOE’s goal is to minimize the stormwater systems as much as possible and refurbish the remaining stormwater systems to facilitate transfer to new landowners.
A total of 57 outfalls that discharge stormwater remain on the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. Cleaning, repairing, and/or removing flow from these outfalls will allow them to be removed from the permit so that DOE can divest itself from future risks.
The stormwater reroute project is divided into four distinct projects based on location (Poplar Creek, Outfall 490, miscellaneous outfalls, and Mitchell Branch). Poplar Creek is the first project to be addressed, and a subcontract was awarded to ARS Aleut Remediation LLC to implement the required changes. Mobilization began in May and work is steadily progressing on the 18 outfalls that comprise this project. Work modifications in this scope include pipe cleaning to remove unacceptable sediments, slip-lining, grading, excavation of existing storm drains, removing and repairing asphalt, installing new pipe, removing an oil water separator along with contaminants contained within the structure, removing fencing, and installing new ditch lines. Work also includes packaging and shipping all associated wastes.
The second phase, which is the Outfall 490 area, has been bid and is expected to be awarded within the next few weeks.
