OSHA’s Safe & Sound Week is a nationwide event held each August that recognizes the successes of workplace safety and health programs. This year’s event, which starts on August 10, is focused on workplace safety and health recognition programs.
As a Department of Energy Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Site, UCOR recognition and worker engagement programs that promote safety improvements include:
The UCount Program: Provides immediate positive recognition to employees for achievements or behaviors that mean the most to a specific project or team.
The TeamsCount Program: Recognizes accomplishments of small teams.
Local Safety Improvement Teams (LSIT): Worker-led teams that promote continuous safety improvement, enhance safety awareness, manage safety observations, and improvement initiatives, and share lessons learned.
The iQuestion Program: Recognizes those who exercise a questioning attitude. Each employee is empowered to make a nomination via the iQuestion intranet page or the SWIFT Observation Capture app. Ask your supervisor, LSIT member, craft safety advocate, or S&H staff if you need help with a nomination.
Safety Observation Cards: Can be used to submit positive observations that recognize someone for doing a good job or having a good idea.
In addition to these programs, our workforce informally recognizes each other for exceptional work and ideas by sharing positive feedback with the person face to face—everyone appreciates a kind word.
