The ORNL Nuclear Operations (NucOps) team successfully retrieved two Liquid Low-Level Waste (LLLW) samples at the 7856 Melton Valley storage tanks. This sampling effort is part of a larger strategic plan to manage the remaining storage capacity of the LLLW system safely and efficiently. The results of this sampling analysis will provide detailed information on chemical and radiological composition of tanks W-32 and W-33. This information will be used to support processing of these tanks through the LLLW evaporator, which will result in the recovery of approximately 100,000 gallons of storage space. This additional volume space provides several extra years of storage and ensures the LLLW system can continue to support ORNL operations and manage legacy facilities across the campus.
