UCOR Public Affairs team member Ryan Getsi was a guest speaker at a business and professional communications class at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) Thursday. She shared advice, personal and professional experience, and lessons learned from being a young professional.
Ryan was invited to speak by Kylie Julius, Communications Manager at Strata-G–a small business company that is a part of UCOR’s Mentor-protégé agreement. Julius teaches the class and once had Getsi as a student.
The full-circle moment allowed Getsi to share information about UCOR with the students and detail what it takes to communicate UCOR’s impressive story regarding cleanup and safety excellence.
Getsi not only shared what she does in her profession today, but what got her here. She discussed with students what college left her with, what she’s learned outside of academia, what Public Affairs work for UCOR looks like, how she decided to pursue a master’s in public administration (MPA) at UTK’s Howard Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs, and overall, the experience of being a young professional in today’s world.
The discussion led to multiple students having questions regarding UCOR’s work, including expressed interest in opportunities to get involved in the nuclear resurgence and the environmental cleanup mission in Oak Ridge.
