Block training is a critical tool to perform work safely and efficiently, and its effective implementation is thanks to the Block Training planning committee.
Behind the curtain, the Training and Development Program, management, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) have spent the past five months making sure classes are useful so field workers can apply the training to every aspect of their lives, ensuring they go home the same way they came to work.
When preparing for block training, the planning committee had to keep in mind that one of the three components of UCOR’s Mission Ready Program needs to be met, training preparedness. To ensure this goal was achieved, two weeks were reserved for over 380 employees from deactivation and demolition projects to come together for job-specific training.
Management gave the training program direction on what training our workforce needs to be prepared to execute the mission. The training program then used that direction to staff classes with the appropriate SMEs. Over 20 SMEs volunteered their knowledge to provide the workforce with what they needed. Together, this collaboration led to over 160 classes.
Following block training, the planning committee met to discuss lessons learned and ways to continue improving the experience for employees in the future. The team identified ways to strengthen planning and coordination, improve the timing and sequencing of courses, and ensure training remains aligned with workforce and project needs.
The planning committee would love your feedback to make future Block Trainings stronger. Please reach out to Pamela Gray with suggestions.
