To the UCOR Workforce:
UCOR’s cleanup momentum continues across the Oak Ridge Reservation. At ORNL, we have added another aging facility, Building 3544 Process Waste Treatment Plant, to the cleanup sequence while continuing to advance demolition readiness across the heart of central campus through innovative cleanup solutions.
On Isotope Row, crews are preparing to demolish 11 aging facilities in the central campus area, with Building 3036 scheduled to be demolished first beginning in July. Building 3544 has officially transitioned from Nuclear Operations to our ORNL deactivation and demolition crews and is now entering characterization and deactivation activities. At Building 3038, we are proactively reducing risks through the removal of a high-risk off-gas line and implementation of a first-of-a-kind borescope to characterize portions of the building with limited access.
As experienced crews shift between projects and phases of work, the cleanup we are performing today enables modernization at ORNL and creates the conditions for the next scientific discovery.
I will continue to communicate our progress toward successfully achieving our cleanup mission. In the meantime, stay vigilant. Thank you for your continued dedication to safely delivering our cleanup mission and shaping the future of Oak Ridge.
Best Regards,
Jim Blankenhorn
UCOR President and Program Manager
