UCOR University Consortium partner Roane State Community College hosted the Tennessee Board of Regents on Thursday for a tour of the nuclear and chemical operator training labs at its Oak Ridge campus. Roane State President Chris Whaley asked UCOR President & CEO Ken Rueter to give welcoming remarks and share an update at the Board’s Thursday dinner about the commercial nuclear renaissance enabled by UCOR’s cleanup.
In his introduction Whaley described UCOR to the Board as “foundational” to the Roane State lab spaces, not only providing financial support but also curriculum development and apprenticeship opportunities leading to full-time UCOR employment.
The UCOR-Roane State partnership won the Board of Regents’ “SOAR Award” (Statewide Outstanding Achievement Award) in 2023. The Tennessee Board of Regents oversees the state’s 13 Community Colleges and 23 Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology (TCATs) and offers classes in 90 of the state’s 95 counties.
