UCOR’s Wolfley Named TAUC Safety Professional of the Year
OAK RIDGE, Tennessee, May 28, 2025 – Clint Wolfley, End State Development Manager for United Cleanup Oak Ridge, LLC (UCOR), has been recognized as Safety Professional of the Year by a national group composed of more than 1,800 contractor companies that use union labor for their projects.
The award, presented by The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC), highlights the leadership of top safety professionals who drive changes that provide positive impact across the construction industry.
“The TAUC Safety Professional of the Year is acknowledged by peers and industry colleagues as a leader and mentor,” Chris Buckman, president of the Arlington, VA-based trade association, said. “Each year, the award goes to a top safety professional who has demonstrated that he or she puts industry safety above all else. Based on his impressive record of achievement, Clint Wolfley was the ideal candidate for this year’s award.”
Wolfley was selected for accomplishments in his previous role as UCOR’s Chief Safety/Security Officer. In that position, Wolfley provided oversight for a diverse portfolio of safety initiatives at U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) projects at the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP), the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and Y-12 National Security Complex (Y-12).
Wolfley’s span of control provided oversight for more than 500 field support and functional industrial/construction safety, radiological control, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, physical security, information classification, emergency management, wellness program, and training personnel who work to protect the nearly 2,500 employees and subcontractors who make up the UCOR workforce.
The award recognizes Wolfley as an advocate for the DOE-Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and UCOR’s VPP Star designation given only to the highest performing DOE sites. Under his leadership, UCOR has received six DOE-VPP Star of Excellence Awards for outstanding safety performance and exemplary outreach efforts, along with one DOE-VPP Legacy of Stars Award for sustained performance of excellence.
During Wolfley’s tenure, a multidisciplinary team created the award-winning UCOR Mission Ready Program, which was launched in 2019 to encourage workers to take ownership of safety and improvements to maintain a strong safety culture. This worker health program addresses the mental, physical, and emotional needs of UCOR workers engaged in high-hazard work. The program considers how personal conditions and off-the-job activities can impact safe work performance.
Other safety initiatives helping workers under Wolfley’s leadership include introducing technology to reduce heat stress in high-temperature environments, enhancing fall protection, and controlling hazards from the presence of mercury in Manhattan Project buildings now being demolished on the Oak Ridge Reservation.
TAUC is the premier national trade association for the union construction and maintenance industry. It is composed of contractor companies that utilize union labor for their projects, as well as local contractor associations and vendors in the industrial maintenance and construction fields. TAUC acts as an advocate for union contractors and enhances cooperation among unions, contractors, and owner-clients.
UCOR is the DOE Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management’s lead environmental cleanup contractor. The company’s ~2,500 workers are dedicated to safely reducing environmental risk on the Oak Ridge Reservation while helping DOE’s Office of Science and the National Nuclear Security Administration continue their important missions.
