UCOR recently collaborated with the City of Oak Ridge Electric Department to relocate 33 transformers from the Old Switch Yard at ETTP Heritage Center to the new EM Laydown Area 1 located just outside Y-12’s west entrance. The City’s Electric Department coordinated with UCOR on which transformers needed to be taken down and which would stay. This effort finalized the recent land transfer to the City of Oak Ridge.
The relocated transformers are now readily available for reuse on future DOE/UCOR projects, resulting in potential cost and schedule reductions. Four additional transformers were also identified and relocated from the Environmental Management Waste Management Facility (EMWMF) to the same EM Laydown Area. UCOR’s Program Integration team helped facilitate the relocation effort through coordination with other organizations such as Procurement, Subcontracts, End State Delivery, EMWMF Operations, and Environmental Programs.
