UCOR was honored to recognize six small businesses for their exemplary support at an awards ceremony held at the Oak Ridge Conference Center this morning. The awardees were:
AISI-CTI JV, LLC—a joint-venture with Oak Ridge-based subcontractor CTI and Chattanooga-based subcontractor AIS Infrastructure—cleared more than 40 acres on the EMDF footprint within a critical environmental window before bat roosting and migratory bird season. Completing this work allows construction of the landfill that will support continued demolition across the Oak Ridge Reservation and help advance DOE’s vision for reindustrialization.
Premier Contracting & Technical Services, Inc., based in Oak Ridge, coordinated the delivery and placement of controlled low-strength material (CLSM) to fill and level the basement of the 210,000-square-foot Beta-1 facility at the Y-12 National Security Complex. More than 2,500 truckloads were placed, achieving only 1.64% material waste compared with an industry average of approximately 6%. The project earned a Tennessee Concrete Association Specialty Commercial Concrete Award and helped UCOR complete deactivation ahead of schedule and under budget.
Elite Landscapes Inc., an Oak Ridge-based company, provided year-round landscaping and winter weather support at TWPC. By pre-treating roads, removing snow and ice, and maintaining site conditions, the company enabled uninterrupted operations while ensuring the site met stringent DOE safety and maintenance standards.
Southeast Equipment Sales, another Oak Ridge-based company, supported cleanup at the former White Wing Scrapyard by providing specialized equipment and forestry expertise that enabled UCOR to safely clear 39 acres of trees. The effort marked the first time UCOR performed this type of industrial land-clearing work with its own workforce, reducing risk while preparing the site for future remediation.
JSH Web Designs: Based in Knoxville, Tennessee, JSH designed and implemented a mobile app for UCOR employees to help reach over 500 field workers to ensure they receive communications, announcements, and critical information. JSH successfully delivered the app and continues to aid in enhancements made for continuous improvement.
McCall Industrial Supply Co., LLC : Based in Boise, Idaho, McCall identified hard-to-find valves, pipes, flanges, and other industrial products that are used on every project every day. They continue to provide clear and consistent communication to ensure all orders are as requested, verify equipment has no issues, and overall limit any inconvenience or risk to UCOR personnel.
