University of Tennessee engineering students presented their year-long project efforts at the recent Tickle College of Engineering Senior Design Showcase, an annual event where students show how they took on real-world challenges from actual clients.
Each year, UCOR hosts a project for a three-member team. This year’s project, Effects of Atmospheric Stability Class Determination on Accident Analysis at DOE Nuclear Facilities, was completed by a team named Atmospheric Dispersion Investigators led by UCOR Fellow Dr. Jason Hayward as Faculty Advisor and UCOR’s Jeff Woody as mentor.
Jeff Woody mentored the conceptual project in which the team evaluated how atmospheric stability clad determination methods affect predicted radiological doses in hypothetical accident scenarios at DOE nuclear facilities. They compared classification approaches using meteorological data and dispersion modeling. Quantified resulting variations in consequence assessments.
Senior Design Projects are a great way for students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom and present them publicly to guests. Over 200 student teams participated in this year’s showcase with six teams that included current or former UCOR interns.
