Congratulations to the UCOR TRU Waste Operations team for safely and successfully shipping the second load of sodium shields to a treatment facility in Texas. The shields will be transformed into a stable glass form through vitrification before disposal. This load consisted of three shields, which are in addition to two shields that were successfully shipped in July. Removal of these shields continues UCOR’s work of removing hazardous waste from the Oak Ridge Reservation to allow the sites to successfully continue their missions.
