Crews have removed the second of five highly contaminated hot cells from the Isotope Development Lab Building 3038 at ORNL. They are using a foaming process to plug the separation points between the hot cells, helping protect crews from hazardous materials. The next task to be tackled is prepping another hot cell that was previously converted to a glovebox for separation removal. This work is helping prepare the building for eventual demolition. It was constructed in 1949 as the analytical and packing building and contains equipment that was used for processing, conversion, and dispensing of radioactive isotopes.
