Recently, after months of preparatory activities, ORNL Nuclear Operations pipefitters, welders, chemical operators, and radiological control personnel performed the final separation of process off-gas piping from Building 3038.
“This isolation was the final legacy utility systems tied into the facility,” ORNL Lead Project Manager Billy Lloyd said. “Completion of this task supports continued deactivation and risk reduction activities at 3038.”
This evolution involved close coordination with gaseous waste system operators and welders. Operators carefully observed system parameters and made minor adjustments to lower the overall flow of the system. This ensured a safe and compliant work environment for welders to complete system modifications.
