ORNL will conduct a full-scale exercise between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3. The annual shelter-in-place exercise for all Lab staff, including UCOR personnel, will take place as part of the exercise.
UCOR personnel who have signed up for the Laboratory Shift Superintendent (LSS) Alerts Notification System may receive exercise announcements. Personnel monitoring WARS may hear exercise radio traffic.
Shelter-in-place exercises typically occur during a scheduled time. However, the June 3 exercise will occur at a random time determined by the progress of the exercise. All personnel, excluding those with approved exceptions, must shelter in place (remain indoors) until they are released by the LSS Office.
The shelter-in-place exercise will begin with the sounding of the Standard Alert Tone, followed by instructions by the LSS over the public address, radio, and desktop alert systems. The shelter-in-place exercise will last for approximately 15 minutes. An announcement will be made over the public address, radio, and desktop alert systems by the LSS when the shelter-in-place exercise has concluded.
UCOR D&D and high hazard activities are exempted from the exercise. For questions or additional exemption requests, contact Darrell Lawson at 865-617-2077.
