Workers at the ORNL Oak Ridge Graphite Reactor (OGR) complex are busy pouring 50 cubic yards of a concrete mixture into the exterior utility trench around Building 3003, the Solid-State Accelerator Facility. Filling the trench creates a solid, flat surface for workers and equipment to move safely over the area without any openings or void spaces as they mobilize for demolition. Demolition of Building 3003 will begin in June. The cleanup and removal of the complex is a priority for DOE, eliminating high-risk inventories of nuclear waste and deteriorated, contaminated facilities and providing the space for future ORNL missions.
