EPA and TDEC joined DOE officials today at 701 Scarboro to celebrate the signing of a “No Further Action Record of Decision” (ROD), establishing that all necessary soil cleanup work for Zone 1 at ETTP has been completed. This is the first “No Further Action” ROD for the Oak Ridge Reservation.
Zone 1, which is the area immediately surrounding the main plant of the former K-25 site, encompasses 1,400 acres. The soil, surface water, and groundwater in this zone became contaminated from gaseous diffusion processing activities. DOE, EPA, TDEC, and UCOR worked together through years of partnership to clean up the contamination. Each member of this effort met regularly to discuss issues impacting cleanup and courses of action to resolutions.
