UCOR’s Mental Wellbeing Center recommends starting the new year practicing mindfulness.
Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment—on purpose, and without judgment. Instead of getting caught up in worries about the future or replaying the past, mindfulness helps us notice what’s happening right now: our thoughts, emotions, and sensations, just as they are.
It doesn’t mean clearing your mind or forcing yourself to feel calm. It means learning to observe your experience with curiosity and kindness, so you can respond rather than react. With practice, mindfulness can help reduce stress, improve focus, and create more space between you and difficult thoughts or emotions while increasing psychological flexibility.
