Just as we set boundaries around our worksites, we need to set our own personal boundaries. To enter these worksites, there are several conditions that must be met beforehand. With our personal boundaries, we too need to have conditions in place to allow people into our lives with healthy limits and clear standards. Without boundaries we can quickly, yet quietly find ourselves dealing with exhaustion, burnout, resentment, and anxiety.
People who struggle with boundaries often feel that they are stuck or responsible for other’s feelings. Setting boundaries is one of the healthiest forms of self-respect and benefits our mental wellbeing.
When thinking about your boundaries, keep these helpful guidelines in mind:
- Learn that “No.” is a complete sentence
- Protect your recovery time
- Reduce your constant availability
Healthy boundaries allow us to show up focused and compassionate and builds resilience over time. Boundaries are not a weakness, nor are they selfish, but they are essential for maintaining our mental wellbeing.
