If you are a home vegetable gardener and live close to the Oak Ridge Reservation, you may be able to contribute to the DOE ORR Environmental Surveillance Program.
Each year, locally grown tomatoes, leafy greens, and root vegetables are collected from the local area and analyzed for various pollutants to demonstrate that operations on the Oak Ridge Reservation are protective of the environment and of public health. Summarized results are made available to the public in Annual Site Environmental Reports.
Names of individuals providing produce and exact garden locations are kept confidential.
If you or someone you know grows vegetables or produces milk near the ORR and would be willing to participate in this program, please contact Roxanne Nagle (865-241-3730 or naglerm@ornl.gov) or Amber Harshman (865-576-0864 or harshmanam@ornl.gov) for more information and to determine if your garden is in an area of interest.
If you contacted us in 2021, there is no need to contact us again unless there has been a change in the crops you are growing.
