Traditional Type 1 hard hats have protected workers for decades, but as UCOR is phasing in Type 2 safety helmets, we are offering a higher level of protection. In addition to top-impact protection, Type 2 helmets are designed to absorb side impacts. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, nearly 20% of workplace head injuries are associated with slips, trips, and falls, while almost half result from contact with objects or equipment. The transition is especially important because slips, trips, and falls remain UCOR’s leading injury type across the Oak Ridge Reservation.
