THE HIVE LSIT, representing 701 Scarboro, partnered with UCOR’s Training and Development Program to engage the workforce on emergency response preparedness and everyday safety topics.
THE HIVE combined interactive safety discussions with hands-on demonstrations focused on trauma kits, tourniquets, heat stress, heart health, and other seasonal and workplace safety topics.
Attendees were given an overview of what the Training and Development Programs four-hour emergency response training involves. Attendees also learned more about other resources that are available through the training program and are open to the entire workforce. Don’t need emergency response or CPR training as part of your qualifications? It doesn’t matter—the training is still available to you.
The collaboration highlighted UCOR’s continued commitment to proactive safety engagement and employee development through interactive learning opportunities that keep us going home the same way we came to work.
To keep this safe momentum going, make it a habit to regularly submit a safety observation capture. Completing a safety observation not only gets you thinking about safety but also makes you four times less likely to get injured at work. As safety observations increase, injuries decrease.
Safety observations are integral to our safety and the work we do and can be submitted through the Swift Observation Capture Application.
A few safety observation reminders:
- Positive. Observe the work that’s been done – We do great work at UCOR, so if you observe someone working safely or notice a safe and well-maintained worksite, fill out a safety observation that recognizes this.
- Trending. Report a hazard that has already been corrected – When you a report a hazard that you’ve already corrected as part of your normal work scope, you provide valuable data about hazards that may otherwise go unnoticed. This gives our safety professionals better leading indicators to help proactively prevent accidents and injuries.
- Elevate. Raise attention to an existing hazard – You should always report immediate hazards to your supervisor or the Facility Manager. You can also fill out a Safety Observation on an existing hazard to help ensure that it is tracked or elevated to a higher priority level within the organization.
