UCOR crews successfully demobilized the high-reach excavator used for Alpha-2 demolition in half the time it took for its initial mobilization. This work was accomplished with the help of heavy equipment operators, laborers, mechanics, health physicists, and safety personnel.
This accomplishment highlights exceptional teamwork and meticulous planning. This efficiency is attributed to the careful and extensive coordination among multiple partners, including project management, D&D crews, project engineering, CNS personnel, and the equipment vendors and truck drivers. Their collaboration ensured a smooth and expedited process.
The rented, demobilized excavator has been returned to its owner. UCOR plans to use a similar machine for upcoming work in the Beta-1 facility. While the costs associated with specialized equipment and its transportation are substantial, the team’s ability to reduce the demobilization time by half represents an operational and efficiency achievement, accelerating the future reuse of the footprint.
