Heritage Center crews recently completed work at the 770 embayment. Grading the area and hydroseeding with a special native wetland seed mix allows for the area to return to a more natural state with proper flow into the Clinch River. Work also included removal of the adjacent stormwater piping and outfall currently on the DOE National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit.
The outfall was physically removed during the project and documentation is being prepared to remove the outfall from the NPDES permit. As a reminder, an NPDES permit is required when discharging pollutants directly from point sources into surface waters of the state.
