The Environmental Management Waste Management Facility (EMWMF) Operations team recently upgraded the leachate management system to provide remote monitoring capability. This upgrade supports the existing leachate control system designed to notify crews of conditions such as power outages or high-level alarms for tanks.
Workers can now monitor all eight tank levels, the leachate inflow rate, and any high-level alarms in real time without being onsite thus reducing the number of call-ins during off-shift periods and over weekends and holidays. This upgraded system helps to ensure EMWMF remains compliant with operational requirements and continues to safeguard the environment.
Leachate is water that flows through the landfill and is collected for treatment. EMWMF manages up to 5.5 million gallons of leachate per year.
