We have a lot of things that cause distractions in our lives, causing us to lose focus. Maintaining focus is especially critical during this time of the year as children return to school. We have to remember to slow down in school zones, stop for buses, and look out for children who may be crossing streets. Being mindful and observant to ensure children’s safety means we can’t allow ourselves to become distracted in our vehicles by phone calls, music, conversations, and other drivers’ behaviors.
These are just considerations on our commute to work. Once we’re here, we can face a myriad of distractions that can cause us to lose focus. Being mindful and focusing on the work at hand is a key element of UCOR’s safety culture. A momentary lapse of concentration can result in a serious injury, even in an office environment. Workers can trip over cords or boxes, hit their heads on open filing cabinets, or injure their backs lifting boxes of copier paper or other items. Always think about the possible risks when performing a task and ensure that you take steps to avoid those risks and go home at the end of the day in the same safe condition that you arrived.
