Ryan Cannady Recognized as NSC 2022 Rising Star of Safety
Oak Ridge, Tenn., September 26, 2022 – The National Safety Council has named Ryan Cannady as one of 2022’s Rising Stars of Safety. Cannady is the Deputy Environmental Safety and Health Manager for United Cleanup Oak Ridge (UCOR). Annually, NSC recognizes leaders under the age of 40 from across the United States for their dedication to making their workplaces safer.
At UCOR, Cannady is charged with ensuring that crews conducting final soil remediation at the East Tennessee Technology Park adhere to the principles of UCOR’s award-winning safety culture. He works to control occupational hazards by evaluating work, preparing documents, and implementing controls.
Cannady attributes his NSC recognition to UCOR’s commitment to safety as well as the high priority UCOR management places on situational awareness. He also cites the company’s focus on being a learning organization and its emphasis on conservative decision making, with every worker empowered to stop work when threats to safety arise.
“I’m glad I work for a company that is so committed to safety,” Cannady said. “I give UCOR a 10 out of 10 when it comes to ensuring the safety of the workforce. The commitment far exceeds the other industries where I have been involved.”
Before joining UCOR, Cannady held similar posts in the pharmaceutical, construction, and steel industries. He earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Occupational Safety and Health, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.
Since 2010, the National Safety Council has honored the next generation of safety professionals through the Rising Stars of Safety Award.
