UCOR Public Affairs Deputy Director Chris Caldwell shared an update to Tennessee Chamber of Commerce members on how UCOR’s “Cleanup Today for a Nuclear Tomorrow” initiative has delivered industry-leading federal land reuse opportunities for advanced commercial nuclear investments in Oak Ridge at the Chamber’s “Workforce Development Conference” this week in Nashville. Caldwell participated in the conference’s “Innovative Workforce Solutions in Industry” panel along with representatives from HCA Healthcare and Tractor Supply Company.
His remarks centered around UCOR’s emphasis on the growth of its intern program and apprenticeship partnerships to attract and retain skilled labor for its cleanup mission work. He also shared how establishing the UCOR University Consortium has built programs like:
- Roane State Community College: chemical operator program and other training efforts
- University of Tennessee: nuclear decommissioning minor and enhanced emphasis on nuclear criticality safety
- Tennessee Tech: nuclear engineering degree program
