UCOR’s work at Y-12 and ORNL were featured at the American Nuclear Society’s (ANS) National Conference in Denver last week as UCOR President and Program Manager Jim Blankenhorn sat down with ANS CEO Craig Piercy for a “Fireside Chat” at the conference.
Blankenhorn shared with the audience the completed and upcoming demolition work at ORNL and Y-12, outlining the complexity of safe cleanup on two active, congested campuses.
“It’s a very high-risk effort that requires us to work hand-in-hand with those site landlords because we have to conduct the mission, but we have to conduct it in a way that doesn’t impact in a negative way their ongoing missions and operations,” he explained.
Piercy also complimented UCOR’s partnership with ANS to establish a framework to advance ANS workforce training and certification programs to meet current and future nuclear industry hiring needs.
