Congratulations to UCOR’s Y-12 Flowable Fill project team at Beta-1 for winning a Tennessee Concrete Association (TCA) award late last week. The award recognized the 16.8 million gallons of CLSM poured in the basement of the former uranium enrichment facility to prepare it for upcoming demolition.
UCOR hired Premier Contracting & Technical Services (PCTS) to organize and oversee the project to fill the basement, necessary to create a safe platform for demolition equipment. The Flowable Fill CLSM mix provided by Harrison Construction is a low strength cement mix made of fly ash, sand, and cement.
This successful streak is a testament to UCOR’s Y-12 deactivation and demolition teams’ commitment to operational excellence and strong collaborations. Several UCOR employees were involved in this collaboration, performing and coordinating the day-to-day work:
- Mike Morneau and Shane Larter (STR)
- Dawn Mills (Area Superintendent)
- Rose Shirks (Superintendent)
- Connie Galyon (General Foreman)
- Rebecca Harness (General Foreman)
- Bonnie Horsley (Foreman)
- Michael Brewster (Foreman)
- Daniel Russell (Operator)
