Q: Is there an effort to address bottlenecks on getting scope on contract/authorized to support EM’s mission to continue timely contract execution?
A. There are several challenges in navigating the process for awarding work under the Contract, including overarching guidance and ongoing organizational changes. UCOR and OREM are collaborating on multiple fronts to address these concerns to mitigate any unnecessary impacts. One option actively being pursued is consolidating UCOR’s Contract into a more streamlined contract vehicle.
Q: Any big activities coming in the future for LGWO and what does success look like for LGWO?
A. UCOR’s Liquid and Gaseous Waste Operations (LGWO) facilities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory are essential to our cleanup and the enduring research and development missions at Oak Ridge, treating around 110 million gallons of wastewater each year. Our team continues doing a great job on its 24/7 operations while simultaneously replacing and upgrading its aging infrastructure. UCOR recently completed a piping replacement project at the LGWO Process Waste Facility, replacing 2,500 feet of above-ground carbon-steel piping with stainless steel. Crews will begin similar piping upgrades at ORNL’s Melton Valley Process Waste Collection Tank Facility. LGWO will continue to play an essential role supporting ORNL’s enduring science missions.
