Abelquist joins UCOR Technical Services team
Oak Ridge, Tenn., November 9, 2020 – Dr. Eric Abelquist has officially joined the team at UCOR, an Amentum-led partnership with Jacobs. Recently retired from Oak Ridge Associated Universities, today Abelquist takes on the role of UCOR’s Deputy Director of Technical Services.
Abelquist said he looks forward to the new challenge. “UCOR is a strong partner within the community, highly valued in the region and nationally as an innovator in the cleanup industry, as well as being a fiscally responsible steward of taxpayer dollars. That is just the kind of organization I want to be
involved with in the next phase of my career,” Abelquist said.
During his 27 years at ORAU, Abelquist was Executive Vice President and led the organization’s research enterprise. He applied his nuclear engineering training to a joint effort with UCOR to help
establish the nation’s first nuclear decommissioning minor in the nuclear engineering program at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Abelquist is a Certified Health Physicist (CHP). He holds a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee. He earned his Master of Science in Radiological Sciences and protection and bachelor’s degree in radiological health physics from the
University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
UCOR, an Amentum-led partnership with Jacobs, is the DOE Oak Ridge Office of Environmental
Management’s lead environmental cleanup partner. After safely removing the last of the legacy facilities from East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP), the former Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant, the company’s highly trained workforce is removing unused, contaminated facilities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Y-12 National Security Complex, while continuing remedial actions at ETTP.
