3029 crews remove first drum from hot cell

The ORNL D&D team continues remote hot cell work as another team begins removal of highly contaminated material. Crews have initiated the removal of legacy material from Building 3029’s hot cells using manipulator arms and long handled tools. Characterization efforts identified high radiation levels on cell equipment and other items that require remote handling to safely transfer items to shielded drums. A Readiness Evaluation assessment was conducted along with mock-up activities and abnormal event response drills prior to starting this project. Continued removal of this material will prepare the cells and Building 3029 for future demolition.
