The Alpha-2 team at Y-12 recently celebrated the successful demolition of the 325,000-square-foot former uranium enrichment facility at a special luncheon. This project marks the largest ever demolition to date at Y-12. The team completed the project 6 months ahead of schedule, which resulted in over 62 million pounds of waste removed from the footprint.
Crews are wrapping up waste disposition. They will soon package and ship off an estimated 783,000 pounds of lead removed from the facility, advancing cleanup and preparing the footprint for future national security infrastructure.
