Counterfeit parts can lead to safety and operational performance issues. A suspect counterfeit item (S/CI) means credible evidence exists that the part has been modified or is an unauthorized copy, imitation, or substitute knowingly misrepresented as a specified genuine part.
As a result of the identification of potentially suspect counterfeit bolts and fasteners delivered to UCOR projects, DIR-UCOR-703, Enhanced Materials Receipt Inspection, was implemented on Aug. 6, 2025.
Enhanced inspections and oversight shall be performed by a team of UCOR Quality Control Inspectors (QCIs), engineers, and dedicated advisors. The scope of these enhanced inspections and oversight includes:
- Verification that receipt inspection requirements are met
- Inspection of the material for indication of S/CI
- Coaching, where appropriate, on good receipt inspection practice
While receipt inspections are performed by trained personnel, all UCOR team members involved in procuring, receiving, inspecting, storing, installing, maintaining, or overseeing items and materials used by UCOR should maintain a questioning attitude regarding visual and physical markings, including:
• Missing manufacturer’s logo, trademark, or codes
• Improper markings
• Falsified markings that mimic reputable manufacturers
• Double stamping or evidence of grinding/re-stamping over original marks
• Dimensions and weight
• Material defects such as cracks, seams, or voids
• Lack of documentation
• Poor construction, workmanship, and/or packaging
Per PROC-PQ-1445, Suspect/Counterfeit Items, immediately report the discovery of a S/CI to your supervisor, quality engineer, or S/CI technical expert.
